Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Facelift Launched in India: Price, Features and What’s New
Mercedes-Benz India has launched the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class facelift at ₹3.35 crore (ex-showroom). The India-spec car comes only as the S 580e, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and all-wheel drive. It is the first plug-in hybrid in the Maybach range in India, replacing the 4.0-litre V8 used in the outgoing model.
That powertrain change is the biggest news. The rest of the update is a larger illuminated grille, new lighting, simpler rear-seat controls and a rear seat that reclines further than before. Mercedes-Benz India has allocated 30 units for the first batch, with deliveries starting in November 2026.
The Maybach is primarily designed around the rear-seat experience, particularly for chauffeur-driven owners. So the more relevant question is whether the facelift changes enough in the rear seat and under the bonnet to matter.
This article separates what is confirmed for India from what applies only to the global model, and looks at what ₹3.35 crore covers.
Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Facelift Price in India
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class price in India is ₹3.35 crore, ex-showroom. There is one variant, the S 580e 4MATIC. Mercedes-Benz India has allocated 30 units for the first batch, and deliveries are due from November 2026.
For context, the outgoing Maybach S 580 was priced at ₹2.87 crore ex-showroom before options. The facelift is therefore about ₹48 lakh, or roughly 17 per cent, more expensive. Against the regular S-Class sold in India, the gap is ₹97 lakh over the S 450e Manufaktur Edition AMG Line (₹2.38 crore) and ₹1.15 crore over the S 450e Launch Edition (₹2.20 crore).
On-road prices will depend on the state, registration, insurance, and the options you choose. Mercedes-Benz India has not published an on-road figure, so we are not estimating one. The launch details also don’t say whether the car is locally assembled or imported, so treat any claims either way as unconfirmed.
What’s New in the Maybach S-Class Facelift?
Most of the change is in the powertrain, the rear seat, and the details around the car. Here are the changes that matter, and why.
The V8 is gone. The Maybach S-Class facelift India model moves to a plug-in hybrid. This changes how the car behaves in daily use. It can run on electric power alone for city trips, and the petrol engine takes over for longer runs. The full details are in the powertrain section.
The rear seats go further back. Recline increases to 43 degrees, compared with 38 degrees in the regular S-Class. In a car where the owner may spend the journey working or resting, this is the most useful physical change.
The rear controller has changed. The earlier tablet-style controller is replaced by two individual smartphone-style remotes. Each rear passenger can now control their own seat, climate and entertainment settings, rather than passing one tablet around.
The face is new. A larger illuminated grille, redesigned headlamps with three-pointed-star daytime running lights, and Maybach-specific rose gold detailing give the car a different look. Mercedes-Benz has kept the proportions, so the car is still recognisable.
The software is new. The India-spec car runs on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) and uses the MBUX Superscreen layout. This matters most to an owner who drives, and less to a chauffeur-driven owner.
Personalisation has widened. The Manufaktur programme now includes more exterior colours and two-tone paint. India gets two-tone finishes.
Several things are unchanged. The Maybach remains 180 mm longer than the long-wheelbase S-Class, and the basic shape is the same.
Powertrain and Performance: What the S 580e Does
The S 580e pairs a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine with an electric motor and a 22 kWh (usable) battery. Power goes to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic (9G-TRONIC).
| Specification | India-spec S 580e |
| Petrol engine | 3.0-litre inline-six, 443 hp / 560 Nm |
| Electric motor | 160 hp / 480 Nm |
| Combined output | 585 hp (about 593 PS) / 750 Nm |
| Transmission | 9-speed automatic |
| Drivetrain | 4MATIC all-wheel drive |
| 0–100 km/h | 4.8 seconds (claimed) |
| Top speed | 250 km/h (electronically limited) |
| Battery | 22 kWh usable |
| Electric range | Up to 98 km (WLTP-certified) |
| Electric-only top speed | 140 km/h |
| AC charging | Up to 11 kW |
| DC charging | Up to 60 kW |
| Fuel efficiency | 34.48 km/l (WLTP weighted combined, claimed) |
The engine and motor figures do not add up to the combined figure. This is normal for hybrids. The engine and motor do not reach their peak output at the same moment, so the “combined” number is what the whole system can deliver together.
In everyday use, the car offers three drive modes: Maybach, Electric, and Battery Hold. In Electric mode, a full battery lets you cover short city trips without the petrol engine starting. Battery Hold saves the charge for later. For example, you could run on petrol on the highway and keep the battery for the last stretch into a city. Energy recuperation is adjustable, and one-pedal driving is available. At low speeds in electric mode, an Acoustic Presence Indicator adds a soft exterior sound so people nearby can hear the car.
Two numbers need caution. Mercedes-Benz India says real-world electric range can stretch to about 100 km. That is a manufacturer claim, and heat, traffic, and air-conditioning load will affect it. The 34.48 km/l figure is a weighted blend of electric and petrol running. If the battery is rarely charged, actual fuel use will be much higher.
The 4.8-second 0-100 km/h time is quick for a four-seat limousine. In a car like this, it is more reserve than purpose.
Exterior Design: What Changed
Only the changes that separate the facelift from the outgoing car are covered here.
- Grille: It is larger and framed by LED lighting, while retaining the Maybach vertical slats. The “Maybach” wordmark above it and the star on the bonnet are illuminated.
- Headlamps: The units are larger. They use the newer Digital Light technology and three-pointed-star daytime running lights. Where the regular S-Class has blue accents, the Maybach uses rose gold with the Maybach logo.
- Lower air intake: The mesh carries small Maybach logos.
- Wheels: The India-spec car rides on 20-inch forged Maybach wheels. Their centre badges are counterweighted, so the Mercedes logo stays upright as the wheels turn.
- D-pillar: The Maybach logo is illuminated.
- Tail-lamps: They carry the same three-pointed-star LED signature as the front.
- Ground projection and sills: The car has a ground logo projection and illuminated door sills.
Some options seen globally are not confirmed for India. These include 21-inch wheels and the darker Night Series. The India launch confirms 20-inch wheels and the Manufaktur two-tone finishes.
Interior and Rear-Seat Experience
India gets the S 580e only as a four-seater. The rear has two individual executive seats separated by a full-length business console. The seats are heated, ventilated, and massaging, and they recline up to 43 degrees.
The Rear Comfort Package Plus is standard. It adds fold-out tray tables, wireless charging pads, rear ambient lighting, ng and temperature-controlled cup holders. An Energizing Package with calf massage and Automatic Comfort Doors is also listed as available. The launch details do not make clear whether these two are standard or optional, so confirm with a dealer before assuming.
Which of these matter most for the person in the back?
- 43-degree recline and massage. On a long drive, these decide whether you can rest properly.
- The two remotes. Each passenger controls their own seat and settings without going through the driver.
- Tray tables and wireless charging. These help anyone working from the car.
- Automatic Comfort Doors, if specified, spare the passenger from handling the door.
The cabin uses Maybach-exclusive Nappa leather in crystal white and silver grey pearl. It also has Manufaktur piano lacquer trim, a crystal white Nappa leather roof liner and Manufaktur seat backrest trim. The key is in high-gloss white with rose gold detailing.
Rear legroom and boot space have not been published for this India-spec car, so no figures are given here. Leather-free vegan upholstery has been offered globally for the first time on a Maybach, but it is not confirmed for India.
Technology and Features
Here is what the India-spec car gets, grouped by use.
Front displays and software. The car runs on MB.OS. The dashboard uses the MBUX Superscreen, which combines a central display with a front-passenger display that has a privacy function. The driver gets a free-standing 3D display. The dash is largely shared with the facelifted regular S-Class, but the Maybach adds its own graphic theme and rose gold accents. An augmented-reality head-up display and navigation are included.
Audio. The system is a Burmester 4D surround setup with 31 speakers, eight exciters, ers and 1,610 watts of output. It supports Dolby Atmos.
Rear entertainment. Two rear screens come with wireless headphones, and the rear passengers get MBUX controls. Rear screen sizes have not been confirmed.
Ride and handling. Cloud-based AIRMATIC air suspension uses navigation data to adjust damping. Rear-axle steering turns the rear wheels by up to 10 degrees to reduce the turning circle.
Charging and connectivity. Every car comes with a complimentary home charging solution. Owners get access to public charging through MB. Charge. Mercedes-Benz India has not detailed phone integration or other connectivity features in the launch material.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Mercedes-Benz India lists 15 airbags and PRE-SAFE Impulse and Impulse Side systems. GUARD 360° Vehicle Protection Plus handles theft prevention and intrusion detection. DIGITAL LIGHT with Adaptive High-beam Assist Plus is standard. Drive Assist provides Level 2 driver assistance. This includes Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Steering Assist. Level 2 means the car can manage speed and steering together while the driver stays responsible. Mercedes-Benz India has not claimed anything higher for this car.
No crash-test rating has been published for the India-spec Maybach S-Class facelift.
Maybach S-Class vs Regular S-Class
India sells the regular S-Class only in long-wheelbase form. It is currently the S 450e plug-in hybrid. The Maybach sits above it. Here are the practical differences.
| Regular S-Class (S 450e) | Maybach S 580e | |
| Price (ex-showroom) | ₹2.20 crore / ₹2.38 crore | ₹3.35 crore |
| Seating | Five-seater | Four-seater only |
| Length | Long wheelbase | 180 mm longer than the long-wheelbase S |
| Powertrain | 3.0-litre six-cylinder PHEV | 3.0-litre six-cylinder PHEV, 4MATIC all-wheel drive |
| Output | Lower than the Maybach | 585 hp / 750 Nm |
| Rear recline | 38 degrees | 43 degrees |
| Styling | Larger grille, blue accents | Vertical slats, rose gold, illuminated wordmark |
The two cars share the same basic plug-in hybrid concept. They differ in output and everything to do with the rear compartment.
The regular S-Class suits an owner who splits time between driving and being driven. The Maybach is built primarily around the passenger in the back.
What Does ₹3.35 Crore Actually Get You?
The ₹97 lakh premium over the top regular S-Class pays for several things. Some of it you can see and some you cannot measure.
A different cabin layout. Four seats with a full-length console replace the rear bench. The extra 180 mm of length supports that layout.
A stronger drivetrain. The Maybach adds all-wheel drive and a higher combined output than the regular S 450e.
Maybach-specific design. The grille, lighting, wheels, and trim are unique to the car. How much that is worth is personal.
Rear-seat equipment. Recline, massage, ventilation, tray tables, wireless charging, and the two remotes sit mainly in the back.
Personalisation. Manufaktur two-tone finishes and exclusive Nappa colours let owners specify the car more individually.
Exclusivity. Only 30 units are in the first batch. That is a fact about supply. It says nothing about demand, bookings or resale.
What the price does not buy is a clear improvement in everything. If you mostly drive yourself, much of the rear-seat investment goes unused. If you are chauffeured, the premium is easier to understand. Whether it is “worth” ₹3.35 crore depends on how the car will be used, and there is no objective figure for that.
India-Spec Considerations
The PHEV Advantage for the Maybach. Mercedes-Benz India says it is seeing rising demand for plug-in hybrids among top-end customers. The PHEV format lets a large car run on electric power in the city while keeping petrol for longer trips. It avoids the range concerns of a pure battery car.
Charging. The car supports up to 11 kW AC and 60 kW DC. On paper, 22 kWh at 11 kW works out to around two hours. That is our arithmetic, not a Mercedes-Benz figure. Mercedes-Benz India has not published charging times, and actual time will depend on the home charger and supply. A home charging solution is included. The PHEV benefit depends on regular charging, so the owner needs a dependable parking spot with a power supply.
Chauffeur and owner use. A chauffeur can charge overnight and start each day on electric power for city runs. Rear-axle steering helps with tight turns in a long car. An owner who drives will mostly benefit from the performance and the driver-side technology.
Practicality. This is a big car, 180 mm longer than a long-wheelbase S-Class. Boot space has not been published. Ride comfort is helped by the air suspension and the softer Maybach drive mode.
Final Verdict
The facelift is a meaningful update, but mainly because of what it changes underneath and in the back seat, not because of how it looks. The styling updates are real but incremental.
The most important change is the powertrain. Moving from a V8 to a plug-in hybrid changes the character of the car. It can be near-silent in city use and strong on the highway, with a combined 585 hp and 750 Nm.
The Maybach is aimed at chauffeur-driven owners and at buyers who want the most rear-seat equipment Mercedes-Benz India offers. The 43-degree recline, the individual remotes and the four-seat layout all point the same way.
The India-spec PHEV gives the Maybach a more practical angle for city use. That advantage, however, depends on the owner having a reliable way to charge regularly. Without that, the car is still a capable Maybach, but the plug-in hybrid benefit mostly disappears.
