Jaguar Type 01 Unveiled: Everything We Know About the New Electric GT

Komal Thakur October 9, 2026

Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, the first production model built on its new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), following the Type 00 concept, at a world premiere in New York on 6 October 2026. It is a four-door, four-seat grand tourer with a tri-motor powertrain producing up to 1,030PS (1,015hp), which Jaguar says makes it the most powerful road car it has built. Orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first deliveries anticipated in the second half of the year. Prices start at $130,500 in the US and £130,000 in the UK.

The Type 01 matters because it shows what Jaguar’s reinvention looks like as a product. The Type 00 concept, shown in Miami in December 2024, drew a mixed reaction. The Type 01 keeps much of that look, according to launch coverage, and adds figures for performance, range, charging and price.

Jaguar Type 01: Key Details

The Type 01 is designed, engineered and built in the UK. Jaguar says the name reflects the new direction: “Type” refers to past Jaguars, “0” to zero tailpipe emissions and “1” to the first car of the new generation.

Exterior Design: From Concept to Production

The Type 01 is a low car with a long bonnet, a short front overhang and an extended rear overhang. The 23-inch wheels are more than half the car’s height. Jaguar highlights these details:

  • Rear: The tailgate is solid, with no glass. A digital rear-view display built into the dashboard soundbar replaces the conventional mirror. The full-width tail-lights stay hidden until lit.
  • Front: The digital LED headlights are the slimmest Jaguar has fitted, at 3.3 inches (84mm) high, with 17,000 pixels each.
  • Doors: They are frameless, using a new roof-rail design that Jaguar says is patent-pending.
  • Proportions: The distance from the front axle to the front door is 898mm, about 17 percent of the car’s length. Jaguar says this is unusual among EVs and compares it to the E-Type.
  • Rear quarter panel: Jaguar calls it the “Impossible Panel”. It is pressed in a six-stage process at Halewood.

Active aerodynamics include front vanes that open and close, and a three-stage rear spoiler that deploys above 50mph. Jaguar quotes a drag coefficient of 0.23Cd and calls it the most aerodynamic Jaguar yet.

Electric Powertrain and Performance

The Type 01 uses one 260kW motor at the front and two 310kW motors at the rear. Jaguar quotes a system peak of up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm, with 0–100km/h in 3.2 seconds. The 100–180km/h time of 4.0 seconds is the more telling figure for a grand tourer, because it shows how quickly the car gains speed once it is already moving.

Jaguar also lists the following:

  • Weight balance: 50:50 front to rear.
  • Steering: all-wheel steering, with the rear axle turning up to six degrees, and an 11.5-metre turning circle.
  • Dynamic mode: sends up to 87 percent of power to the rear axle.
  • Suspension: air springs with twin-valve active dampers.
  • Cruising: a system that can shut down the rear motors when full power is not needed, which Jaguar says can add up to 18 miles of range.

Jaguar says its Formula E programme informed the silicon carbide inverters and traction control software. All performance figures here are manufacturer claims, and no independent data on the production car is available yet.

Battery, Range and Charging

The battery has 118kWh of usable capacity and runs on an 850V architecture. Jaguar’s expected EPA range is up to 400 miles (about 644km), quoted with the optional 21-inch wheels. The standard wheels are 23-inch, and Jaguar has not said how much the range changes on them. Some coverage also cites a WLTP range of up to 720km from Jaguar’s international materials, which is an estimate ahead of EU certification. EPA and WLTP are different test cycles, so the two figures are not directly comparable.

For long-distance use, Jaguar quotes up to 320 miles at a sustained 75mph. Charging figures are:

  • 350kW DC: about 200 miles (321km) of range in 13 minutes.
  • 10–80 percent: around 22 minutes.
  • 400V chargers: up to 250kW through a split-pack arrangement.
  • AC: up to 19.2kW.
  • US plug: NACS compatibility.

Actual charging times depend on temperature, battery condition, and charger output. The battery warranty is eight years or 100,000 miles.

Interior and Technology

The cabin has four seats. A central spine runs the length of the interior and divides it into four individual spaces. The cabin features include:

  • A 24-inch OLED driver display, a seven-inch central touchscreen and a seven-inch rear-seat control screen
  • 12-way adjustable front seats that are heated, cooled, and have a massage function
  • Heated and cooled rear seats that split-fold 50:50
  • A standard panoramic glass roof with a virtual blind
  • A 38-speaker Meridian-tuned audio system, built around a soundbar at the base of the windscreen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and over-the-air software updates

Jaguar says the driver-assistance suite uses 10 cameras, five radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. The release does not detail which assistance features are offered. The infotainment system is new, so its software and usability remain untested.

Jaguar Type 01 vs Jaguar Type 00 Concept

The Type 00 concept previewed the design direction, and the Type 01 is the production model that follows it. Press reports say the production car keeps much of the concept’s deliberately provocative styling. One reported change is the colour palette: the concept’s pastel shades are gone, replaced by silver, white, black, blue and grey, plus satin blue and copper.

Jaguar has not published a point-by-point list of concept-to-production changes, so readers should not assume every concept feature has carried over. What Jaguar confirms for the Type 01 is the glassless tailgate, the low roofline, the long-bonnet proportions and the frameless doors. The launch-spec “Design Vision” edition has an interior that Jaguar says pays homage to the Type 00 cabin.

Expected Price and Launch Timeline

Jaguar has announced UK pricing starting at £130,000. The US starting price is $130,500. Prices for other markets, including India, have not been confirmed.

Orders are expected to open in early 2027, and first deliveries are anticipated in the second half of 2027. Production will begin in 2027 at JLR’s Solihull plant, with drive units and battery packs made in Wolverhampton and body panels pressed at Halewood.

Two further variants have been announced:

  • Design Vision: the launch edition, finished in Visionary Silver Satin with unique wheels and finishers.
  • Chromatic Moments: a collection limited to 60 examples worldwide, with two bespoke paints.

Jaguar Type 01 India Launch and Availability

Jaguar has not announced an India launch date for the Type 01 in its global release, and no India-specific price or delivery timeline has been confirmed. Some Indian portals carry expected launch windows and estimated prices for 2027. These are not Jaguar announcements, and they differ widely between websites. Treat them as unconfirmed until JLR India makes an official statement.

What the Jaguar Type 01 Means for Jaguar

The Type 01 is the first product of Jaguar’s all-electric strategy, and it resets the brand’s price position. At £130,000 in the UK, Jaguar is placing it well above where the marque has recently sold cars. Managing director Rawdon Glover has said the company is targeting younger, wealthier and more technology-focused buyers.

The engineering is a large part of the pitch. Jaguar says it filed more than 360 patent applications for the car and presents the platform as the base for future models. One car is therefore carrying a new design language, a new platform, a new price tier and a new brand identity at once. Its reception will depend on the production car’s finish, software and real-world range.

Final Verdict

On paper, the Type 01 is a credible production car. The specification is serious: a 118kWh usable battery, 850V charging, a tri-motor layout and a claimed 400-mile EPA range. It also has a clear identity, with four seats, a glassless tailgate and a camera in place of a rear-view mirror. The production car appears to retain much of the concept’s distinctive design, based on published launch coverage. Whether it works as a grand tourer is a separate question that only independent testing can answer.

Buyers should wait to learn:

  • Final certified range, and the range on the standard 23-inch wheels
  • Real-world charging against the 13-minute claim
  • Kerb weight, which is not part of the figures released so far
  • How the new infotainment, camera mirror and driver-assistance systems behave in daily use
  • Ride quality and refinement
  • Confirmed pricing in markets outside the US and UK, including India

Until then, the Type 01 is best judged as a well-specified and unusually bold launch, not yet a proven grand tourer.
