The Indian automotive market started 2026 with a strong start after a series of new car launches and unveilings in various segments. From revised SUVs to new electric vehicles, several automakers unveiled models that showcase design directions, advanced tech and electrification coming from them.

Among some of the most awaited vehicles scheduled for launch in January 2026 are the Kia Seltos, Mahindra XUV 7XO, Maruti Suzuki e‑Vitara (electrified version of Vitara), Renault Duster, Nissan Gravite and updated Tata Punch.

The models range from low- to high-price segments and cost drives, which makes them suitable for various buyers, be it family-oriented MPVs or luxury SUVs, to electric cars. Here’s a closer look at the highlights of these new car launches in India.

Kia Seltos- Second Generation

The new Kia Seltos kicked off the year with its launch in early January 2026. The second-generation Seltos, built on an updated version of the K3 platform, brings sharper design, more technology and improved cabin comfort.

The exterior features a bold front grille, vertically oriented LED daytime running lights and new tail lamps as well. Inside, the SUV receives a contemporary interior featuring a large digital display consisting of dual 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and the instrument cluster merged into one setup. Ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless connectivity, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are just some of the premium features to augment its appeal.

Mechanically, the Seltos continues with the same engine options: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine paired to manual and auto transmissions.

Mahindra XUV 7XO

Another big launch was the Mahindra XUV 7XO, which is basically a facelift of the popular XUV700 with revised design and features. This is also the second model from Mahindra to use its new naming strategy, following XUV 3XO.

Changes include the new C-shaped LED headlamps, a reworked grille and new tail lamps that we hope will give enough modernised aggression to the SUV. The cabin is likely to include multiple digital displays, upscale materials and advanced connectivity features.

The powertrain options will most likely carry over, with the familiar 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines that offer segment-competitive performance. ADAS and other technology updates cater to safety, as does a new camera system heightening XUV 7XO’s mid-size SUV competitiveness.

Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara

Kicking off the list is the Maruti Suzuki e‑Vitara, which will mark the brand’s entry into the electric SUV space in India.

The e-Vitara sports an avant-garde design based on the global eVX concept vehicle and is constructed on a dedicated electric architecture. The inside features dual screens, a clean centre console and advanced driver-assistance technologies.

The electric SUV is likely to be available in two battery variants, 49 kWh and 61 kWh, linked to a front-mounted electric motor. The bigger battery pack is claimed to offer a driving range of up to approximately 500 km on a single charge, making it one of the most sensible EVs in its segment.

Renault Duster- New Generation

Another major highlight for India is the return of the Renault Duster. When the Duster was launched in India, it played a key role in making compact SUVs popular.

The upcoming generation will be built on the modern CMF-B platform and is expected to feature a completely new design with a rugged and muscular stance. Expect a more premium interior than before, complete with a larger touchscreen infotainment system, better materials and newer safety tech.

The engine line-up could include a 1.3-litre turbo petrol along with a 1.2-litre mild-hybrid powertrain that is expected to provide better performance and efficiency than the previous generation model.

Nissan Gravite

Nissan is all set to launch the Gravite, expanding its presence in the affordable MPV space. As previously revealed, the Gravite would ride on a modified version of the Renault Triber platform and have a practical seven-seat layout.

The MPV developed for 2+3+2 seating and family buyers will receive an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, multiple safety features, and a competitive price, as per the company. The Gravite is intended to appeal to cost-conscious buyers seeking a small car with a big interior.

Tata Punch Facelift

Another major launch likely by January 2026 is the Tata Punch. The popular small SUV has been given some subtle styling updates, as well as new features to keep it competitive in its segment.

The updated model features new LED headlamps, a revised grille and new front and rear bumpers. Inside, a larger touchscreen infotainment system and upgraded materials are likely.

Mechanically, the Punch will likely continue with its existing petrol engine, while safety remains a strong focus, with the possibility of six airbags becoming standard across variants.

New Car Launches in India: What to Expect Next

January 2026 has been a rather busy month for the Indian automotive industry, as it saw several new models being introduced in multiple segments. From the massively popular feature-packed SUV segment with models like the Kia Seltos and Mahindra XUV 7XO, to electric innovation seen with vehicles like the Maruti Suzuki e‑Vitara, manufacturers are putting their focus clearly on technology, safety and sustainability.

Meanwhile, other models like the Renault Duster, Sales Gravite and Tata Punch also give buyers of every budget a new consideration.

With the year still on its way, we expect many more launches in India, especially of SUVs and EVs. 2026 is a big year for the car: consumers and enthusiasts alike can get excited about all of the choices that will be available when it rolls around.
