Komal Thakur September 21, 2026

Tata Motors has launched the Sierra Dark Edition in India at a starting price of ₹13.99 lakh (ex-showroom), bringing its #DARK treatment to the recently launched mid-size SUV. It is a styling-focused edition of the existing Sierra range, with a new exterior shade, blacked-out trim, and a purple-accented cabin theme. The engine, gearbox, and underlying hardware remain unchanged from the regular Sierra.

Tata Sierra Dark Edition Price in India

The Tata Sierra Dark Edition starts at Rs 13.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 21.59 lakh, ex-showroom, across six trims and multiple engine-gearbox combinations. The Dark treatment adds Rs 20,000 over the equivalent Pure L version, and Rs 30,000 over the equivalent version on every trim above that.

Not every engine-gearbox combination is offered on every trim. The turbo-petrol automatic starts from the Adventure+ L #Dark, while the Accomplished+ #Dark is offered only with turbo-petrol AT, diesel MT and diesel AT.

What Is the Tata Sierra Dark Edition?

The Sierra Dark Edition is a separate styling-focused edition within the existing Sierra range, not a replacement for it. It arrives days after Tata introduced the Sierra Legend Series, an update that added 18 new variants and cabin convenience features to the Sierra lineup. The Dark Edition is available from the Pure L trim onwards within the Legend Series.

The regular Sierra, including the Legend Series variants, continues to be sold alongside the Dark Edition. The main difference is the exterior and cabin treatment, while the underlying powertrain and hardware remain unchanged.

Exterior Design and Dark Treatment

The Sierra Dark Edition is offered exclusively in Friesian Black, with chrome elements across the body replaced by black-finished trim. The 19-inch alloy wheels retain their existing design but are finished in black rather than the standard silver treatment. Tata has added #DARK badging on the front fenders, along with Dark Chrome and Piano Black Sierra mascots on the front doors and tailgate. Beyond the colour and these trim changes, the exterior panels, proportions, and design elements are the same as the regular Sierra.

Interior and Features

Inside, the Dark Edition gets what Tata calls the Violet Eclipse theme, an all-black cabin using Granite Black art-leather upholstery with a Soft Volume 3D pattern, offset by purple inserts on the AC vent bezels, door handles, front armrest, door deco panels and front seatbacks, with matching purple stitching. The start-stop switch ring and inner door handles get a Dark Chrome finish, and the lower steering wheel garnish is done in Piano Black.

Beyond this styling treatment, there is no change to the interior layout or feature list versus the equivalent standard Sierra trim. Depending on which trim you pick, features such as the triple-screen setup, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, powered tailgate, connected car tech, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera and a 12-speaker JBL Black sound system are carried over exactly as they are on the non-Dark Sierra.

Engine, Gearbox and Performance

The Sierra Dark Edition does not introduce any new mechanical hardware. It uses the same three 1.5-litre engine options as the standard Sierra:

  • A naturally aspirated Revotron petrol producing 106hp, offered with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic
  • A Hyperion turbo-petrol producing 160hp and 255Nm, offered only with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic
  • A Kryojet diesel producing 118hp and 260–280Nm (depending on transmission), offered with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic

None of these outputs, transmission choices, or drivetrain layouts change on the Dark Edition. Buyers are getting the same performance package as the standard Sierra trim it’s based on, dressed in a different exterior and cabin theme.

The biggest practical difference is cosmetic exclusivity: the Dark Edition gives buyers a distinct look that isn’t otherwise available on the regular Sierra, at a modest premium over the equivalent trim. It doesn’t unlock a new variant tier; the Dark Edition’s own range starts from Pure L, so it isn’t offered on the Sierra’s most basic trims. Buyers who want the lowest possible entry price into the Sierra range, or a colour other than black, will need to look at the standard lineup instead.

Which Sierra Dark Edition Variant Gets What?

  • Pure L #Dark (from Rs 13.99 lakh): Entry point to the Dark range, offered with petrol MT, petrol DCT, and diesel MT. No diesel automatic here.
  • Pure L (O) #Dark (from Rs 14.59 lakh): Adds the diesel automatic option over the Pure L, alongside the same petrol choices.
  • Pure+ L #Dark (from Rs 15.29 lakh): A step up in trim level with the same engine-gearbox spread as Pure L (O), at a higher price point reflecting added equipment.
  • Adventure+ L #Dark (from Rs 17.29 lakh): The widest spread in the lineup, petrol MT, petrol DCT, diesel MT, diesel AT, and the first trim to offer the turbo-petrol automatic.
  • Accomplished #Dark (from Rs 18.29 lakh): Drops the petrol DCT option but keeps petrol MT, turbo-petrol AT, diesel MT, and diesel AT.
  • Accomplished+ #Dark (from Rs 20.59 lakh): The range-topping Dark trim, available only with turbo-petrol AT, diesel MT, or diesel AT; manual and DCT petrol are not offered here.

What Has NOT Changed?

  • Platform and chassis
  • All three engine options and their outputs
  • Transmission choices (6-speed MT, 7-speed DCT, 6-speed torque-converter AT)
  • Drivetrain: front-wheel drive
  • Vehicle dimensions
  • Core safety equipment, including the 6-airbag setup and Level 2 ADAS on applicable trims
  • Suspension and braking hardware

What Do You Get for the Sierra Dark Edition Price?

The additional Rs 20,000–30,000 covers the Dark-specific exterior and interior treatment, while the underlying feature and powertrain package remains linked to the corresponding Sierra trim. There’s no extra equipment bundled in beyond the Friesian Black exterior, blacked-out trim, #DARK badging, and the Violet Eclipse cabin theme.

Who Is the Sierra Dark Edition For?

Buyers who prefer the Sierra’s black exterior and dedicated cabin treatment may find the Dark Edition more appealing. Those who want a wider choice of exterior colours or a lower entry price will need to look at the standard Sierra or Legend Series.

Final Verdict

The Sierra Dark Edition changes the SUV’s exterior and cabin treatment without introducing mechanical changes. It sits within the existing Sierra range and carries a Rs 20,000–30,000 higher price than the corresponding standard versions. Buyers comparing the two should check the exact trim, engine-gearbox combination, and equipment list before booking.
