2026 Renault Duster Hybrid: Prices, Mileage and Variant-Wise Features
The Renault Duster Hybrid has launched in India with introductory prices starting at ₹16.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 29 kmpl. Called the Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160, it combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery, producing a combined 160 PS.
Launched on 17 October 2026 in Evolution, Techno and Emotion variants, the hybrid adds a self-charging powertrain to the Duster range. However, it misses out on the Level 2 ADAS and 360-degree camera offered on the Iconic, the top turbo-petrol trim, so the choice is about more than mileage alone.
On paper, 29 kmpl is ahead of the claimed figures of the Maruti Suzuki Victoris (28.65 kmpl) and the Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder (27.97 kmpl) strong hybrids. Bookings are open, and deliveries begin on 6 November.
Renault Duster Hybrid Price in India
| Variant | Ex-showroom price (introductory) | Dual-tone |
| Evolution | ₹16.99 lakh | Not offered |
| Techno | ₹18.99 lakh | ₹19.19 lakh |
| Emotion | ₹19.49 lakh | ₹19.69 lakh |
The introductory prices apply to vehicles delivered by 31 December 2026, so a delivery that slips into the new year may not carry them. Bookings are open at ₹21,000 through Renault India’s website and dealerships, and Renault has said it will prioritise deliveries to R-Pass holders.
These are ex-showroom prices and exclude registration, insurance and other charges, which vary by city. Renault has not published on-road figures, and we have not estimated any. Renault also offers an optional Protect 360 package from ₹89,900, covering three years of comprehensive insurance, three years of scheduled maintenance and an assured resale value after three years (Renault’s page states 60 per cent, subject to terms and conditions). It is an add-on, not part of the quoted price.
What Is Different About the Duster Hybrid?
The Duster Hybrid is strong. Its electric motors can drive the car by themselves, and the petrol engine can switch off, which a mild hybrid generally cannot do. A mild hybrid uses a small motor to assist the engine, while a conventional petrol SUV has no electrical assistance at all.
Here, a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine works with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery. One motor drives the wheels, and a separate starter-generator starts the engine, helps with gear changes, and charges the battery. Depending on conditions, the system runs on electric power, petrol power, or both. Renault lists six operating modes, including all-electric, petrol-only, series hybrid, and series-parallel hybrid.
It does not need to be plugged in. The petrol engine and regenerative braking charge the battery, so there is no external charger and no dependence on public charging. An E-Save mode holds back battery charge for a later part of a journey.
Renault says the Duster can run in EV mode for up to 80 per cent of city driving, depending on conditions and battery charge. With a 1.4 kWh battery, that describes the engine staying off for much of a stop-go drive, not a long electric-only range.
Renault Duster Hybrid Engine, Performance and Mileage
| Specification | Renault Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 |
| Petrol engine | 1.8-litre, four-cylinder, 1,789 cc, E20 compatible |
| Engine output | 110 PS, 175 Nm |
| Electric motors | Two (traction motor and starter-generator) |
| Traction motor | 50 PS, 208 Nm peak torque |
| Battery | 1.4 kWh, 247V, lithium-ion |
| Maximum system power | 160 PS |
| Transmission | Multi-mode automatic gearbox, 2 electric and 4 petrol gears |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| ARAI-certified mileage | 29 kmpl |
| Fuel tank | 50 litres |
| Claimed range | 1,400+ km |
| Claimed 0–100 kmph | 9.61 seconds |
On the numbers: 160 PS is the maximum combined system output, and 208 Nm is the traction motor’s peak torque. Renault does not state a combined torque figure. The 29 kmpl is ARAI-certified, which means it comes from a standardised test and not from independent road testing. Real-world results will depend on traffic, climate, load, and driving style, and the 1,400+ km range is Renault’s claim, not a figure to plan a journey around. The 0–100 kmph time is also Renault’s own claim.
The gearbox is a multi-mode automatic with fixed ratios, not the e-CVT used by the Grand Vitara, Hyryder and Victoris hybrids. Whether that changes everyday drivability can only be judged on the road.
For context, the turbo-petrol Duster’s ARAI figures are 19.41 kmpl (1.0-litre manual), 17.75 kmpl (1.3-litre manual) and 18.45 kmpl (1.3-litre DCT). The hybrid’s claimed advantage is large, but we have not converted it into rupees. The saving depends on distance, route, ute, and fuel price, and no reliable ownership data exists yet.
Design and Interior: What Buyers Get
The hybrid follows the turbo-petrol Duster’s design. What sets it apart is the illuminated Duster emblem on the grille and E-Tech badges. All variants ride on 18-inch wheels with 225/55 R18 tyres. The Evolution and Techno get “Ridge” flex wheels, and the Emotion gets diamond-cut “Outback” alloys.
For a rugged-looking SUV, the numbers that matter are 212 mm of ground clearance, a 26.9-degree approach angle and a 34.7-degree departure angle. The Duster is 4,346 mm long, 1,815 mm wide and 1,694 mm tall (with roof bars), with a 2,657 mm wheelbase. It is front-wheel drive only, and both axles use frequency-dependent dampers.
Boot space is stated as about 544 litres up to the roof and about 372 litres up to the parcel shelf. The cabin has a 10.1-inch openR link touchscreen, wireless smartphone mirroring, a six-speaker audio system and dual-zone climate control. A hybrid-specific benefit: the electric AC compressor works independently of engine speed, so the cabin can keep cooling when the petrol engine is off in traffic. Rear-seat comfort is not covered in the published material and is worth checking on a test drive.
Renault Duster Hybrid Features and Safety
Renault lists 38 standard safety features across the hybrid range, including:
- Six airbags (front, side and curtain)
- ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stability programme and traction control
- Tyre pressure monitoring
- Hill-start assist
- Cruise control and speed limiter
- Rear parking assist and a rear-view camera
- ISOFIX mounts, rear occupant alert and pedestrian protection
- Four-wheel disc brakes
The gap is in driver assistance. The Duster’s Level 2 ADAS (17 functions) and 360-degree camera are offered only on the Iconic, the top turbo-petrol trim. The hybrid’s standard list contains neither, and Autocar India and Motoroids both report that they are absent on every hybrid variant, including the Emotion. Buyers who consider these features essential should weigh that against the hybrid’s efficiency.
The Duster range received a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating in April 2026, as reported by Autocar India. We have not verified whether the hybrid was tested separately, and the rating should not be assumed to carry over.
Renault Duster Hybrid Variants: Which One Makes Sense?

The Evolution is suited to buyers who prioritise the hybrid powertrain over premium features. The Techno adds a panoramic sunroof, full LED headlamps, keyless access and stolen-vehicle tracking for ₹2 lakh more. At another ₹50,000, the Emotion adds ventilated and powered front seats, a powered tailgate and a larger digital instrument display, making it worth considering for buyers who want the extra comfort features.
Note: The 7-inch instrument displays listed for the Evolution and Techno are reported specifications; Renault’s brochure confirms the Emotion’s 10.25-inch display. Verify the complete variant-wise equipment list before booking.
What Buyers Should Consider Before Choosing It
Upfront price versus running cost: At launch in March, the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol Evolution manual started at ₹12.99 lakh, so the hybrid Evolution costs about ₹4 lakh more. This is not like-for-like, as the hybrid is automatic-only, but it shows the gap that fuel savings must cover. How long that takes depends on your annual distance and driving pattern, and no verified running-cost data exists yet.
Driving pattern: A strong hybrid generally does its best work in stop-and-go traffic, where the engine can switch off, and braking energy is recovered. Buyers who mostly drive on highways may see less benefit.
Charging: None is required. The Duster Hybrid is self-charging and has no plug.
Missing safety technology: Level 2 ADAS and the 360-degree camera are available only on the turbo-petrol Iconic. Launch reports put it at ₹16.99 lakh for the manual, and ₹18.49 lakh for the DCT automatic, and CarDekho lists the Iconic Launch Edition at ₹17.19 lakh and ₹18.69 lakh. For buyers who value those features over efficiency, that is the alternative within the range.
Warranty: Renault advertises up to seven years or 1.5 lakh km under Renault Forever for the new Duster, but it is a layered cover and narrower than the headline suggests.
- Years one to three: the standard warranty runs for three years or 1 lakh km.
- Years four to seven: an additional warranty, granted one year at a time after each annual service at an authorised Renault dealership. Under Renault’s terms and conditions (March 2026 version), each extension lasts one year or 10,000 km, whichever comes first. Skipping or delaying a service ends the cover.
- Parts excluded: the additional warranty covers fewer parts than the standard one. Renault’s non-exhaustive exclusion list includes the lithium-ion battery, hybrid converter, 12V battery, clutch components, shock absorbers, brake pads and discs, the sunroof and the multimedia system.
- Roadside assistance: not included in the additional warranty.
- Resale: the cover passes to a new owner if servicing continues at Renault workshops.
- Hybrid battery: Renault’s brochure lists a separate warranty of 8 years or 1.6 lakh km. We could not find its detailed terms, so ask for them in writing before booking.
Delivery timing: Deliveries start on 6 November, and the introductory prices are tied to deliveries by 31 December. Ask your dealer for a delivery date and the price that applies to it.
Alternatives: The most direct rivals are the strong-hybrid Vitara, Grand Vitara and Hyryder, which claim 28.65 kmpl and 27.97 kmpl. Compare equipment and prices variant by variant before deciding.
Final Verdict
The Renault Duster Hybrid is a strong choice for city drivers who want an automatic with a certified 29 kmpl, 160 PS of system output, and no need to plug in. The separate battery warranty is reassuring, but its terms need confirming, and the seven-year headline cover is narrower than it sounds.
Priced from ₹16.99 lakh, it carries a premium over the turbo-petrol versions, and the main question is whether your annual running will recover it. It is a weaker fit for buyers who want Level 2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera, which only the turbo-petrol Iconic offers. Among the hybrid variants, the Emotion’s ₹50,000 step over the Techno makes it the one to look at if you want the comfort features.
Several questions remain open until deliveries and road tests begin: real-world mileage, how the multi-mode gearbox behaves in daily use, rear-seat comfort, the detailed battery warranty terms, and waiting periods. Until then, treat 29 kmpl as a certified benchmark, not a prediction of what you will see on the road.
